चारित्रेण महाबाहुः अपकृष्टः स लक्ष्मनः ।
तस्थौ एकांतम् आश्रित्य राम शोक समन्वितः ॥ ॥४-३३-२७॥
Charitrena mahabahuh apakrishtah sa lakshmanah |
Tasthau ekantam ashritya rama shoka samanvitah ॥4-33-27॥
Translation
Held back by his virtuous character, the mighty-armed Lakshmana stood aside in a corner, filled with grief for Rama.

अपने चरित्र (शील) के कारण पीछे हटे हुए, राम के शोक से युक्त महाबाहु लक्ष्मण एक एकांत स्थान (कोने) का सहारा लेकर खड़े हो गए।
English Commentary
Lakshmana finds himself in a physical and emotional deadlock. His charitra (good conduct) prevents him from advancing further into the women's quarters, so he withdraws to a corner (ekantam). This restraint is remarkable given his earlier fury. The verse explicitly mentions he is filled with "Rama shoka" (grief for Rama), reminding the reader that his aggression stems from love and empathy for his brother. He isolates himself in the bustling palace, symbolizing how grief and duty have isolated the brothers from the world of pleasure.

यह श्लोक लक्ष्मण के आंतरिक द्वंद्व का सुंदर चित्रण है। 'चारित्रेण अपकृष्टः' का अर्थ है कि उनके सदाचार ने उन्हें आगे बढ़ने से रोक दिया (क्योंकि सामने स्त्रियाँ थीं)। वे वहीं एक कोने में खड़े हो गए। यहाँ क्रोध के साथ 'राम शोक समन्वितः' (राम के दुःख से युक्त) पद का प्रयोग अत्यंत मार्मिक है। लक्ष्मण का क्रोध अपने लिए नहीं, बल्कि अपने भाई के कष्ट को देखकर है। वे एक कोने में खड़े होकर, अपनी मर्यादा की रक्षा करते हुए, सुग्रीव के बाहर आने की प्रतीक्षा करने लगे।
