किम् नु रुट् कारणम् सुभ्रु प्रकृत्या मृदु मानसः ।
स रोष इव संप्राप्तो येन अयम् राघवानुजः ॥ ॥४-३३-३२॥
Kim nu rut karanam subhru prakritya mridu manasah |
Sa rosha iva samprapto yena ayam raghavanujah ॥4-33-32॥
Translation
(Sugriva asked) O one with beautiful eyebrows, what could be the reason for the anger of this younger brother of Raghava, who is by nature soft-hearted, that he has arrived here as if filled with rage?
हिंदी अनुवाद
(सुग्रीव ने पूछा) हे सुभ्रु (सुंदर भौंहों वाली)! स्वभाव से कोमल मन वाले इन रघुकुल नंदन (लक्ष्मण) के क्रोध का क्या कारण हो सकता है, जिससे ये रोष में भरकर यहाँ आए हैं?
English Commentary
Sugriva asks Tara a question to which he likely already knows the answer, possibly to solicit her objective analysis or strategy. He refers to Lakshmana as prakritya mridu manasah (naturally soft-hearted), identifying that this rage is out of character for the usually devoted and disciplined brother. By asking "what is the cause," Sugriva is essentially asking Tara to diagnose the severity of the diplomatic breach. Addressing her as subhru (beautiful-browed) is an affectionate plea for her help in navigating this dangerous confrontation.

यह श्लोक सुग्रीव की कूटनीति या शायद उनके भ्रम को दर्शाता है। वे जानते हैं कि उन्होंने वचन भंग किया है, फिर भी तारा से पूछते हैं कि लक्ष्मण के क्रोध का कारण क्या है। वे लक्ष्मण को 'प्रकृत्या मृदु मानसः' (स्वभाव से कोमल मन वाला) कहते हैं। यह सत्य है कि लक्ष्मण राम के सेवक के रूप में विनम्र हैं, परन्तु अन्याय के विरुद्ध वे उग्र हैं। सुग्रीव शायद तारा के मुख से स्थिति का विश्लेषण सुनना चाहते हैं या आशा कर रहे हैं कि कोई और (छोटा) कारण हो। 'सुभ्रु' संबोधन का प्रयोग तारा को प्रसन्न करने और सहयोग माँगने के लिए है।
