Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न कोप कालः क्षितिपाल पुत्रन च अपि कोपः स्व जने विधेयः ।
त्वत् अर्थ कामस्य जनस्य तस्यप्रमादम् अपि अर्हसि वीर सोढुम् ॥४-३३-५१॥
na kopa kālaḥ kṣitipāla putra na ca api kopaḥ sva jane vidheyaḥ |
tvat artha kāmasya janasya tasya pramādam api arhasi vīra soḍhum ॥4-33-51॥
Translation
O Prince! This is not the time for anger, nor should anger be directed towards one's own people. O Hero! You ought to tolerate even the negligence of that person (Sugriva) who desires your welfare.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजकुमार! यह क्रोध का समय नहीं है और न ही अपने जनों (मित्रों) पर क्रोध करना उचित है। जो जन (सुग्रीव) आपके ही कार्य (और हित) की कामना रखता है, उसके प्रमाद (गलती) को भी हे वीर! आपको सह लेना चाहिए।
English Commentary
Tara begins her defense with de-escalation. She argues that anger is strategically ill-timed ('na kopa kalah') and morally misplaced against allies ('sva jane'). By labeling Sugriva as 'sva jane' (your own people), she invokes the bond of kinship established before the fire. She admits Sugriva's 'pramadam' (error/negligence) but frames it as a minor lapse of a loyal friend rather than the betrayal of a traitor. She appeals to Lakshmana's heroism ('Vira'), suggesting that true strength lies in forbearance and forgiveness of a subordinate's flaws.
