Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
देव गंधर्व पुत्रैः च वानरैः काम रूपिभिः ।
दिव्य माल्य अम्बर धारैः शोभिताम् प्रिय दर्शनैः ॥४-३३-६॥
Deva gandharva putraiḥ ca vānaraiḥ kāma rūpibhiḥ । Divya mālya ambara dhāraiḥ śobhitām priya darśanaiḥ ॥ ॥4-33-6॥
Translation
It was adorned by Vanaras who were sons of Devas and Gandharvas, capable of changing form at will, wearing divine garlands and garments, and pleasant to look at.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह नगरी देवों और गंधर्वों के पुत्र, इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाले (काम रूपि), दिव्य माला और वस्त्र धारण करने वाले तथा देखने में प्रिय वानरों से सुशोभित थी।
English Commentary
This verse clarifies the nature of the Vanaras. They are semi-divine beings (Deva Gandharva putrai), possessing magical abilities like shapeshifting (Kama rupibhi). This explains their martial potential which Rama needs. However, currently, they are described not as warriors, but as courtiers wearing "divine garlands and garments." The atmosphere is one of high culture and leisure. The citizens are Priya darshanai (pleasant to behold), enjoying the fruits of Vali’s death and Sugriva’s coronation, oblivious to the looming threat Lakshmana represents.

यहाँ किष्किंधा के नागरिकों (Denizens) का वर्णन है। ये साधारण बंदर नहीं हैं। ये 'देव गंधर्व पुत्र' हैं, जिनमें दैवीय अंश है। 'काम रूपिभिः' (इच्छानुसार रूप बदलने वाले) उनकी जादुई शक्तियों को दर्शाता है। वे 'दिव्य माल्य अम्बर' (दिव्य माला और वस्त्र) पहने हुए हैं। यह सुग्रीव की प्रजा की खुशहाली और विलासिता को दर्शाता है। वे 'प्रिय दर्शनैः' (सुंदर दिखने वाले) हैं। लक्ष्मण देख रहे हैं कि पूरी नगरी उत्सव और आनंद में डूबी है, जो उनके क्रोध रूपी अग्नि में घी का काम कर रही है।
