तत् आगच्छ महाबाहो चारित्रम् रक्षितम् त्वया ।
अच्छलम् मित्र भावेन सताम् दरा अवलोकनम् ॥ ॥४-३३-६१॥
tat āgaccha mahābāho cāritram rakṣitam tvaya |
acchalam mitra bhāvena satām darā avalokanam ॥4-33-61॥
Translation
(Tara says) Therefore, come, O mighty-armed one! You have maintained your character (purity). Looking at the wives of virtuous friends with a friendly attitude and without guile is not a sin.

(तारा कहती है) इसलिए हे महाबाहु! आप भीतर आइये। आपने अपना चरित्र (ब्रह्मचर्य/मर्यादा) सुरक्षित रखा है। मित्र भाव से, बिना किसी छल-कपट के, संतों (मित्रों) की स्त्रियों को देखना दोषपूर्ण नहीं है।
English Commentary
This verse addresses the strict social codes of the time regarding the Antahpura (inner chambers) and Lakshmana's rigid adherence to celibacy and propriety. Lakshmana hesitates to enter where the women are. Tara, recognizing this hesitation, grants him explicit permission and moral clearance. She affirms that he has successfully guarded his character ('cāritram rakṣitam'). She argues a nuanced point of Dharma: intent matters. Viewing the wives of a friend ('satām') with a pure heart ('acchalam' - without deceit) and in the spirit of friendship is not a transgression. By absolving him of potential guilt beforehand, she removes the physical barrier between Lakshmana and Sugriva, paving the way for their confrontation and reconciliation.

यह श्लोक तत्कालीन सामाजिक मर्यादा और लक्ष्मण के चरित्र की दृढ़ता को दर्शाता है। लक्ष्मण एक पर-पुरुष हैं और अंतःपुर (रानियों के कक्ष) में प्रवेश करने में संकोच कर रहे हैं। तारा उन्हें अनुमति देती है और उनके नैतिक संशय को दूर करती है। वह कहती है कि लक्ष्मण का चरित्र इतना उज्ज्वल और संयमित है कि उनके भीतर आने से मर्यादा भंग नहीं होगी। 'मित्र भावेन' (मित्रता के भाव से) वाक्यांश महत्वपूर्ण है; यह स्पष्ट करता है कि यदि मन में कामवासना या छल न हो, तो मित्र की पत्नी को देखना पाप नहीं है। तारा यहाँ एक बड़ी बहन या माता तुल्य भूमिका में है, जो लक्ष्मण को संकोच त्यागने का आग्रह कर रही है ताकि वह सुग्रीव से मिल सकें।
