दिव्य आभरण चित्रांगम् दिव्य रूपम् यशस्विनम् ।
दिव्य माल्यांबर धरम् महेन्द्रम् इव दुर्जयम् ॥ ॥४-३३-६४॥
divya ābharaṇa citrāṅgam divya rūpam yaśasvinam |
divya mālyāmbara dharam mahendram iva durjayam ॥4-33-64॥
Translation
His limbs were adorned with wonderful divine ornaments; he possessed a divine form and looked glorious. Wearing divine garlands and garments, he appeared unconquerable like Mahendra (Indra).
हिंदी अनुवाद
उनके (सुग्रीव के) अंग विचित्र दिव्य आभूषणों से सजे हुए थे, उनका रूप दिव्य था, वे यशस्वी लग रहे थे। उन्होंने दिव्य मालाएं और वस्त्र धारण किए हुए थे और वे महेंद्र (इंद्र) के समान दुर्जय प्रतीत हो रहे थे।
English Commentary
The description of Sugriva intensifies with the repetition of the word 'divya' (divine/celestial). He is decked in celestial ornaments, garlands, and garments, projecting an aura of invincibility akin to Indra ('Mahendra'). This comparison to Indra is double-edged: it signifies supreme power and royalty, but in the context of Indian literature, Indra is often associated with excess indulgence and losing focus due to pleasure. For Lakshmana, seeing Sugriva in such god-like attire is infuriating. It reinforces the idea that Sugriva has completely assimilated into his new role as a hedonistic monarch, shedding the memory of his distress when he pleaded for Rama's help. The visual grandeur of Sugriva directly feeds Lakshmana's moral outrage.

सुग्रीव का वर्णन जारी है। 'दिव्य' शब्द की आवृत्ति (दिव्य आभषण, दिव्य रूप, दिव्य माला) यह बताती है कि सुग्रीव ने किस स्तर का भोग विलास अपना रखा था। वह इंद्र ('महेन्द्रम् इव') के समान लग रहे थे। यह तुलना व्यंग्यात्मक भी है और सुग्रीव की शक्ति का परिचायक भी। व्यंग्य इसलिए क्योंकि इंद्र भी अपनी विलासिता के लिए जाने जाते हैं, और शक्ति इसलिए क्योंकि वानर राज वास्तव में दुर्जय हैं। लक्ष्मण के लिए, यह देखना कि सुग्रीव, जिसे राम ने शरण दी थी, अब देवताओं जैसा जीवन जी रहा है और अपने दाता को भूल गया है, क्रोध को चरम पर ले जाने वाला है। सुग्रीव का यह 'यशस्वी' रूप लक्ष्मण को 'कृतघ्न' रूप जैसा प्रतीत हो रहा है।
