Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दिव्य आभरण माल्याभिः प्रमदाभिः समावृतम् ।
संरब्धतर रक्ताक्षो बभूव अंतक संनिभः ॥ ॥४-३३-६५॥
divya ābharaṇa mālyābhiḥ pramadābhiḥ samāvṛtam |
saṃrabdhatara raktākṣo babhūva antaka saṃnibham ॥4-33-65॥
Translation
Seeing him (Sugriva) surrounded by young women adorned with divine ornaments and garlands, he (Lakshmana), with eyes turned even redder due to intense rage, became like Death (Antaka) himself.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(सुग्रीव को) दिव्य आभूषणों और मालाओं से लदी हुई युवतियों से घिरा हुआ देखकर, (लक्ष्मण की) आँखें क्रोध से और अधिक लाल हो गईं और वे साक्षात् यमराज (अंतक) के समान दिखने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse captures the volatile clash of energies. Sugriva is the picture of sensory indulgence, surrounded by adorned women. In direct opposition, Lakshmana transforms into the embodiment of retribution. The description of his eyes as 'raktākṣo' (red-eyed) signifies uncontrollable fury. The metaphor shifts from Lakshmana being a warrior to being 'Antaka' (Yama/Death/The Ender). This implies that Lakshmana is no longer just a messenger; he is ready to execute judgment. The contrast is absolute: the life-affirming, chaotic energy of the harem versus the cold, destructive discipline of Lakshmana. It heightens the tension, suggesting that violence is imminent unless something drastically changes the dynamic.

यहाँ दृश्य का चरमोत्कर्ष है। एक तरफ विलास में डूबा सुग्रीव स्त्रियों से घिरा है ('प्रमदाभिः समावृतम्'), और दूसरी तरफ ब्रह्मचारी और तपस्वी लक्ष्मण हैं। यह 'भोग' और 'योग' का, 'काम' और 'क्रोध' का आमना-सामना है। सुग्रीव के विलास को देखकर लक्ष्मण का क्रोध सीमा पार कर जाता है। उनकी आँखें 'रक्ताक्ष' (खून जैसी लाल) हो जाती हैं। उनकी तुलना 'अंतक' (यमराज/काल) से की गई है, जो जीवन का अंत करने वाले हैं। यह उपमा सुग्रीव के लिए आसन्न मृत्यु के संकट को दर्शाती है। लक्ष्मण का यह रूप देखकर यह स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि यदि सुग्रीव ने तुरंत क्षमा नहीं माँगी, तो परिणाम भयानक हो सकते हैं।
