ननु नाम कृतार्थेन त्वया रामस्य वानर ।
सीताया मार्गणे यत्नः कर्तव्यः कृतम् इच्छता ॥ ॥४-३४-१४॥
nanu nāma kṛtārthena tvayā rāmasya vānara |
sītāyā mārgaṇe yatnaḥ kartavyaḥ kṛtam icchatā ॥4-34-14॥
Translation
O Monkey! Indeed, having achieved your purpose, and if you wish to validate your own success (or maintain your merit), an effort must be made by you in the search for Sita for Rama's sake.

हे वानर! (मेरे उपदेश का सार यह है कि) स्वयं कृतार्थ होने के कारण और अपने किए हुए (पुण्य/वचन) की रक्षा की इच्छा रखते हुए, तुम्हें सीता की खोज के लिए राम का कार्य अवश्य करना चाहिए।
English Commentary
After the insults and the moral lecture, Lakshmana lays down the demand. The phrase 'yatnaḥ kartavyaḥ' (effort must be made) is the core message. He tells Sugriva that since he has already benefited ('kṛtārthena'), he is obligated to act. The phrase 'kṛtam icchatā' implies that if Sugriva wants to keep his achievements or wishes to be known as someone who has done his duty, he must mobilize for the search for Sita. This verse pivots the conversation from "what you did wrong" to "what you must do now." It is the ultimatum: find Sita, or face the consequences of being an ungrateful liar.

क्रोध और निंदा के बाद, लक्ष्मण अब 'कर्तव्य' (Action Item) पर आते हैं। 'ननु नाम' का प्रयोग बात पर जोर देने के लिए किया गया है। वे कहते हैं कि यदि तुम अपने किए हुए उपकार को सार्थक करना चाहते हो और कृतघ्नता के पाप से बचना चाहते हो ('कृतम् इच्छता'), तो 'यत्नः कर्तव्यः'—तुम्हें प्रयास करना ही होगा। लक्ष्मण स्पष्ट करते हैं कि सुग्रीव के पास अब कोई विकल्प नहीं है। उन्हें तुरंत सीता की खोज (मार्गणे) में जुट जाना चाहिए। यह श्लोक उस दिशा को निर्धारित करता है जिस पर अब सुग्रीव को चलना है।
