कृतम् चेत् न अभिजानीषे राघवस्य महात्मनः ।
सद्यः त्वम् निशितैर् बाणैर् हतो द्रक्ष्यसि वालिनम् ॥ ॥४-३४-१७॥
kṛtam cet na abhijānīṣe rāghavasya mahātmanaḥ |
sadyaḥ tvam niśitair bāṇair hato drakṣyasi vālinam ॥4-34-17॥
Translation
If you do not acknowledge the favor done by the great-souled Raghava, then, killed by sharp arrows, you will see Vali this very day.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यदि तुम महात्मा राघव (राम) के किए हुए उपकार को नहीं मानते हो, तो तीखे बाणों से मारे जाकर तुम आज ही (मृत) बालि को देखोगे (बालि के पास पहुँच जाओगे)।
English Commentary
This is the ultimatum. Lakshmana threatens capital punishment for breach of contract. The phrase "you will see Vali" is a chilling euphemism for death. Since Vali is already dead, seeing him implies Sugriva will be sent to the afterlife. It serves as a grim reminder: the same power that crowned Sugriva can dethrone and destroy him. The mention of niśitair bāṇair (sharp arrows) invokes the terrifying memory of Vali's death, which Sugriva witnessed firsthand. Lakshmana is effectively saying, "Do not mistake Rama's patience for weakness. You are replaceable, and your fate can easily mirror your brother's if you fail to acknowledge the debt."

अब लक्ष्मण खुली धमकी पर उतर आए हैं। 'द्रक्ष्यसि वालिनम्' (बालि को देखोगे) एक बहुत ही भयानक वाक्य है। इसका अर्थ है मृत्यु। लक्ष्मण कह रहे हैं कि राम ने जिस बाण से बालि को यमलोक पहुँचाया था, वही गति सुग्रीव की भी होगी। यदि सुग्रीव को लगता है कि बालि का वध करके राम ने उसे सुरक्षित कर दिया है, तो वह गलत है; राम उसे बालि के पास भी भेज सकते हैं। 'सद्यः' (तत्काल/आज ही) शब्द समय सीमा (ultimatum) को दर्शाता है। यह सुग्रीव के अस्तित्व पर सीधा संकट है। लक्ष्मण स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि कृतघ्न मित्र, शत्रु से भी बदतर है और उसका वही हश्र होना चाहिए जो शत्रु का हुआ।
