Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रुमाम् माम् च अंगदम् राज्यम् धन धान्य पशूनि च ।
राम प्रियार्थम् सुग्रीवः त्यजेत् इति मतिर् मम ॥ ॥४-३५-१३॥
Rumām mām ca Aṅgadam rājyam dhana dhānya paśūni ca । Rāma priyārtham Sugrīvaḥ tyajet iti matir mama ॥ ॥4-35-13॥
Translation
It is my considered opinion that for the sake of Rama's pleasure, Sugriva would forsake Ruma, myself, Angada, the kingdom, wealth, grain, and livestock.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरा ऐसा मत (विश्वास) है कि श्रीराम को प्रसन्न करने के लिए सुग्रीव रुमा को, मुझको (तारा को), अंगद को, राज्य को, धन-धान्य और पशुओं को भी त्याग सकते हैं।
English Commentary
To counter the accusation of ingratitude, Tara vouches for Sugriva's absolute loyalty. She asserts that Sugriva is not attached to his newfound power to the point of betraying Rama. By listing Ruma, herself, Angada (the heir), and the kingdom's wealth, she covers everything a king holds dear. Asserting that Sugriva would sacrifice all of this "Rama priyartham" (for the sake of Rama's pleasure) reframes Sugriva's character from a selfish hedonist to a devoted ally who simply lost track of time. This reassurance is crucial to rebuild the trust that is essential for their future military campaign.

तारा सुग्रीव की राम के प्रति निष्ठा (loyalty) को प्रमाणित कर रही हैं। लक्ष्मण को यह संदेह था कि सुग्रीव कृतघ्न हो गए हैं और राम को भूल गए हैं। इसके उत्तर में तारा कहती हैं कि सुग्रीव केवल राम को याद ही नहीं करते, बल्कि राम के लिए अपना सर्वस्व न्योछावर करने को तैयार हैं। पत्नी, पुत्र, राज्य और संपत्ति—ये किसी भी राजा के लिए सबसे प्रिय वस्तुएं होती हैं। तारा का यह कहना कि सुग्रीव इन्हें भी त्याग सकते हैं, यह सिद्ध करता है कि सुग्रीव विलासी हो सकते हैं, परन्तु विश्वासघाती नहीं। यह कथन लक्ष्मण के मन से सुग्रीव के प्रति अविश्वास को धोने का काम करता है।
