शत कोटि सहस्राणि लंकायाम् किल रक्षसाम् ।
अयुतानि च षट् त्रिंशत् सहस्राणि शतानि च ॥ ॥४-३५-१५॥
Śata koṭi sahasrāṇi Laṅkāyām kila rakṣasām । Ayutāni ca ṣaṭ triṃśat sahasrāṇi śatāni ca ॥ ॥4-35-15॥
Translation
It is indeed said that there are a thousand crores (ten billion) of demons in Lanka, along with thirty-six thousand myriad others.

सुना जाता है कि लंका में एक हजार करोड़ (दस अरब) राक्षस हैं, और इसके अलावा छत्तीस हजार और सौ (अयुत) राक्षस भी वहां मौजूद हैं।
English Commentary
Tara pivots to military intelligence to justify the time taken for preparations. She cites staggered numbers to describe the sheer scale of the Rakshasa population in Lanka. Whether the numbers are literal or figurative, the point is to emphasize that the enemy is legion. By highlighting that Lanka is swarming with billions of demons, she provides a logistical reason for the delay: this is not a skirmish for a few individuals but a massive war requiring a counter-force of equal magnitude. She is laying the groundwork to explain that Sugriva wasn't idling; the task simply requires massive mobilization.

तारा अब सैन्य और रणनीतिक कारणों पर आती हैं कि सुग्रीव को विलंब क्यों हुआ। वह लंका की विशाल सैन्य शक्ति का वर्णन करती हैं। संख्याएँ यहाँ अतिशयोक्तिपूर्ण (hyperbolic) हो सकती हैं, जिसका मुख्य उद्देश्य शत्रु की विशालता को दर्शाना है। तारा लक्ष्मण को यह समझाना चाहती हैं कि रावण कोई साधारण शत्रु नहीं है जिसे सुग्रीव अकेले या जल्दबाजी में हरा सकें। इतनी विशाल राक्षसी सेना का सामना करने के लिए एक सुसंगठित और विशाल वानर सेना की आवश्यकता है, जिसे इकट्ठा करने में समय लगा है।
