घृताच्याम् किल संसक्तो दश वर्षाणि लक्ष्मण ।
अहो अमन्यत धर्मात्मा विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः ॥ ॥४-३५-७॥
ghṛtācyām kila saṃsakto daśa varṣāṇi lakṣmaṇa |
aho amanyata dharmātmā viśvāmitro mahāmuniḥ ॥4-35-7॥
Translation
O Lakshmana! The righteous great sage Vishvamitra, being attached to (the nymph) Ghritachi, thought of ten years as merely a day.

हे लक्ष्मण! धर्मात्मा महामुनि विश्वामित्र अप्सरा घृताची में आसक्त होकर दस वर्षों को भी 'एक दिन' (अहः) ही मानते रहे।
English Commentary
Tara delivers the specifics of her precedent. Sage Vishvamitra was so enamored by the nymph Ghritachi that ten years passed as if they were a single day (aha). Tara emphasizes Vishvamitra's titles—Dharmātmā (righteous soul) and Mahāmuni (great sage)—to stress that even the best are vulnerable to the power of desire (Kama). This is a brilliant rhetorical defense. She suggests that time is subjective when one is in love or pleasure. If a decade can vanish for a Sage, surely a few months' delay by a monkey king is forgivable. She effectively challenges Lakshmana: "Do not judge the monkey more harshly than you would judge the Sage."

तारा विश्वामित्र के प्रसंग को विस्तार देती है। विश्वामित्र 'घृताची' नामक अप्सरा के प्रेम में ऐसे खोए कि 'दस वर्ष' बीत गए और उन्हें लगा कि अभी एक 'दिन' (अहः) ही बीता है। तारा लक्ष्मण को याद दिलाती है कि सुग्रीव को तो केवल कुछ महीने हुए हैं। जब 'धर्मात्मा' और 'महामुनि' कहलाने वाले व्यक्ति का विवेक कामवासना के आगे हार सकता है, तो सुग्रीव की क्या बिसात? यह तर्क लक्ष्मण को निरुत्तर करने के लिए है, क्योंकि लक्ष्मण विश्वामित्र का सम्मान करते हैं (जो राम और लक्ष्मण के गुरु भी रहे हैं)। तारा बड़ी चतुराई से एक सम्मानित उदाहरण का प्रयोग करके सुग्रीव के अपराध को छोटा दिखा रही है।
