सहाय कृत्यम् किम् तस्य येन सप्त महाद्रुमाः ।
शैलः च वसुधा चैव बाणेन एकेन दारिताः ॥ ॥४-३६-८॥
Sahāya kṛtyam kim tasya yena sapta mahādrumāḥ |
Śailaḥ ca vasudhā caiva bāṇena ekena dāritāḥ ॥4-36-8॥
Translation
What need has he of assistance, he who pierced the seven great trees, the mountain, and the earth itself with a single arrow?

जिसे सहायता की क्या आवश्यकता है, जिसने एक ही बाण से सात विशाल शाल वृक्षों, पर्वत और पृथ्वी को भेद दिया था?
English Commentary
Sugriva recalls the specific test of strength Rama performed earlier (piercing the Sapta-sala trees) to validate his point. The logic is sound: If Rama's single arrow has the kinetic energy to pierce seven trees, a mountain, and the earth, he is virtually omnipotent. Therefore, looking for allies is Rama's way of including others, not a necessity born of weakness. This serves to flatter Lakshmana and reiterate Sugriva’s awe of Rama’s power.

सुग्रीव यहाँ उस घटना का स्मरण कर रहे हैं जब राम ने सुग्रीव को विश्वास दिलाने के लिए एक बाण से सात शाल वृक्षों को भेदा था। सुग्रीव तर्क देते हैं: जिसके पास इतनी शक्ति है कि एक बाण से पृथ्वी और पहाड़ हिल जाएं, उसे वानरों की क्या आवश्यकता? यह कहकर सुग्रीव यह सिद्ध कर रहे हैं कि वे राम की शक्ति को भूले नहीं हैं, और सेना का जुटाना केवल प्रभु की सेवा है, उनकी आवश्यकता की पूर्ति नहीं।
