धनुर् विस्फारमाणस्य यस्य शब्देन लक्ष्मण ।
स शैला कम्पिता भूमिः सहायैः किम् नु तस्य वै ॥ ॥४-३६-९॥
Dhanur visphāramāṇasya yasya śabdena Lakṣmaṇa |
Sa śailā kampitā bhūmiḥ sahāyaiḥ kim nu tasya vai ॥4-36-9॥
Translation
O Lakshmana! When he stretches his bow, the sound alone causes the earth along with its mountains to tremble; what need, indeed, does he have for assistants?

हे लक्ष्मण! जिसके धनुष की टंकार मात्र से पर्वतों सहित पूरी पृथ्वी कांप उठती है, उसे वास्तव में सहायकों की क्या आवश्यकता है?
English Commentary
Sugriva reinforces the idea that Rama’s alliance with the monkeys is an act of grace, not necessity. He highlights the auditory terror of Rama's bow—the mere twang (vispharamanasya shabdena) is enough to cause seismic tremors. By asking "what need does he have for assistants?", Sugriva validates Lakshmana's pride in his brother. It suggests that while the Vanaras will fight, the victory will ultimately belong to Rama's prowess alone. This humility dissolves any remaining tension regarding Sugriva’s ego.

सुग्रीव यहाँ श्रीराम की अजेय शक्ति का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। उनका तर्क है कि राम की शक्ति 'आत्म-निर्भर' है। धनुष की टंकार (टंकार वह ध्वनि है जब धनुष की डोरी खींची जाती है) का प्रभाव इतना भयानक है कि जड़ वस्तुएं (पहाड़ और पृथ्वी) भी कांपने लगते हैं। सुग्रीव यह कहकर लक्ष्मण के मन में यह विश्वास जगाना चाहते हैं कि वानर सेना का जुड़ना राम की 'कमजोरी' नहीं, बल्कि राम की 'लीला' का हिस्सा है। सुग्रीव स्वयं को राम का रक्षक नहीं, बल्कि सेवक मानते हैं।
