वनेभ्यो गह्वरेभ्यः च सरित्भ्यः च महाबलाः ।
आगच्छत् वानरी सेना पिबन्ति इव दिवा करम् ॥४-३७-२६॥
vanebhyo gahvarebhyaḥ ca saritbhyaḥ ca mahābalāḥ |
āgacchat vānarī senā pibanti iva divā karam ॥4-37-26॥
Translation
Coming from forests, caves, and rivers, that army of mighty monkeys arrived, appearing as if they were drinking up the sun.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानों, गुफाओं और नदियों से आती हुई वह महाबली वानर सेना ऐसी प्रतीत हो रही थी मानो सूर्य को पी जाएगी (सूर्य के प्रकाश को ग्रस लेगी)।
English Commentary
Valmiki employs a striking metaphor (Utpreksha) here. To describe the sheer density of the mobilizing forces, the text says they seemed to be "drinking up the sun." As the millions of monkeys marched, their physical mass and the dust raised by their movement obscured the sunlight so completely that it appeared they had swallowed the solar orb. This imagery conveys the overwhelming nature of Sugriva's power. It suggests an unstoppable force of nature that dominates the environment, foreshadowing the darkness and despair they will eventually bring upon Ravana's Lanka.

यहाँ 'उत्प्रेक्षा अलंकार' का अद्भुत प्रयोग है। वानर सेना की सघनता और विशालता को दर्शाने के लिए कहा गया है कि वे 'दिवाकरम् पिबन्ति इव' (मानो सूर्य को पी रहे हों)। जब करोड़ों वानर एक साथ चलते हैं, तो उनके धूल और शरीरों से आकाश इतना आच्छादित हो जाता है कि सूर्य का प्रकाश धरती तक नहीं पहुँच पाता। यह उपमा सेना के भयानक और सर्वग्रासी स्वरूप को दर्शाती है। यह दृश्य शत्रु के मन में भय उत्पन्न करने के लिए पर्याप्त है कि जो सेना सूर्य को भी ढक सकती है, वह युद्ध में क्या करेगी।
