तरुण आदित्य वर्णाः च पर्वते ये महाअरुणे ।
पिबंतो मधु मैरेयम् भीम वेगाः प्लवंगमाः ॥ ॥४-३७-७॥
taruṇa āditya varṇāḥ ca parvate ye mahāaruṇe । pibanto madhu maireyam bhīma vegāḥ plavaṃgamāḥ ॥ ॥4-37-7॥
Translation
And those monkeys of terrible speed, possessing the color of the young sun, who live on the Maharuna mountain drinking Maireya wine.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो महारुण पर्वत पर रहते हैं, बाल-सूर्य के समान (लाल) रंग वाले हैं, जो मैरेय नामक मदिरा का पान करते हैं और भयानक वेग (गति) वाले हैं।
English Commentary
This verse identifies the Vanaras of the Maharuna ("Great Red") mountain. Like their habitat, they are the color of the morning sun. A unique cultural aspect is highlighted: they are described as pibanto madhu maireyam (drinkers of Maireya wine/nectar). This suggests a tribe that is perhaps more hedonistic or spirited. However, their defining combat trait is bhima vegah—terrible speed. In a war against magical beings like Rakshasas, speed is as valuable as brute strength. Sugriva recognizes the tactical advantage of having these fast-moving, high-spirited units who can likely execute rapid maneuvers or blitz attacks.

यहाँ 'महारुण' पर्वत के वानरों का वर्णन है। इनका रंग भी उगते सूर्य जैसा लाल है। इनकी विशेष आदत 'मैरेय' मदिरा (एक प्रकार की विशेष शराब जो फूलों या फलों से बनती थी) का पान करना है। मदिरा पान का उल्लेख यह दर्शाता है कि ये वानर आनंद-प्रमोद में रहने वाले और निडर प्रकृति के हैं। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण गुण जो यहाँ बताया गया है वह है 'भीम वेगाः'—अर्थात् भयानक गति। युद्ध में गति अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण होती है। सुग्रीव को पता है कि संदेश पहुँचाने, जासूसी करने या त्वरित आक्रमण के लिए इन तीव्र गति वाले वानरों की आवश्यकता होगी।
