Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
लक्ष्मण आरुह्यताम् शीघ्रम् इति सौमित्रिम् अब्रवीत् ।
इति उक्त्वा कांचनम् यानम् सुग्रीवः सूर्य सन्निभम् ॥४-३८-११॥
lakṣmaṇa āruhyatām śīghram iti saumitrim abravīt |
iti uktvā kāñcanam yānam sugrīvaḥ sūrya sannibham ॥4-38-11॥
Translation
Sugriva said to the son of Sumitra, "Lakshmana, please ascend quickly." Having said this, Sugriva (ascended) the golden vehicle which shone like the sun.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सुग्रीव ने सुमित्रानंदन (लक्ष्मण) से कहा—"हे लक्ष्मण! आप शीघ्र आरोहण करें (चढ़ें)।" ऐसा कहकर सुग्रीव उस सूर्य के समान चमकने वाले स्वर्ण-यान (पालकी) पर (चढ़े/की ओर बढ़े)।
English Commentary
Sugriva displays exquisite manners by inviting Lakshmana to board first ("Lakshmana aruhyatam"). Despite being the King in his own capital, he accords precedence to Rama's brother. The vehicle is "kanchanam" (golden) and "surya sannibham" (resplendent like the sun), fitting for both the Solar dynasty prince (Lakshmana) and the Son of the Sun (Sugriva). Sharing the royal conveyance symbolizes the complete restoration of their bond and their united front as they head to meet Rama.

यह सुग्रीव की शिष्टता का चरम है। यद्यपि पालकी उनकी है, वे लक्ष्मण को पहले चढ़ने का आग्रह करते हैं—'लक्ष्मण आरुह्यताम्' (लक्ष्मण चढ़िए)। यह लक्ष्मण को श्रेष्ठता देने का संकेत है। पालकी 'कांचनम्' (सोने की) है और 'सूर्य सन्निभम्' (सूर्य जैसी चमकदार) है। सुग्रीव और लक्ष्मण का एक ही सवारी में जाना उनके गठबंधन की मजबूती और पुनः स्थापित विश्वास का प्रतीक है। (नोट: मूल संस्कृत श्लोक में क्रिया लुप्त हो सकती है, परंतु संदर्भ स्पष्ट है कि दोनों ने पालकी का प्रयोग किया)।
