बहुभिः हरिभिः युक्तम् आरुरोह स लक्ष्मणः ।
पाण्डुरेण आतपत्रेण ध्रियमाणेन मूर्धनि ॥ ॥४-३८-१२॥
Bahubhiḥ haribhiḥ yuktam āruroha sa lakṣmaṇaḥ । Pāṇḍureṇa ātapatreṇa dhriyamāṇena mūrdhani ॥ ॥4-38-12॥
Translation
Accompanied by many monkeys, Sugriva ascended that palanquin along with Lakshmana, while a white umbrella was held over his head.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बहुत से वानरों के साथ सुग्रीव ने लक्ष्मण सहित उस पालकी पर आरोहण किया। उस समय उनके सिर पर एक श्वेत छत्र धारण किया गया था।
English Commentary
This verse depicts the royal grandeur of Sugriva, who is now the established King of Kishkindha. Sugriva ascending the palanquin along with Lakshmana signifies a diplomatic and respectful gesture, showing that despite his royal status, he honors Rama’s messenger. The 'white umbrella' (Pandura Atapatra) is the ancient symbol of sovereignty and royal protection. The imagery contrasts sharply with Sugriva's earlier state as a fugitive on Mount Rishyamuka. It highlights the restoration of his fortune due to Rama's grace. Lakshmana’s presence in the royal vehicle publicly demonstrates the alliance between the Vanaras and the princes of Ayodhya.

इस श्लोक में सुग्रीव के राजसी ठाठ-बाट का वर्णन है, जो अब किष्किंधा के राजा हैं। लक्ष्मण का उसी पालकी में सुग्रीव के साथ बैठना यह दर्शाता है कि सुग्रीव ने अपने अहंकार को त्यागकर लक्ष्मण के प्रति सम्मान व्यक्त किया है। 'श्वेत छत्र' राजसत्ता और संप्रभुता का प्रतीक है। कुछ समय पूर्व जो सुग्रीव भयभीत होकर ऋष्यमूक पर्वत पर छिपे हुए थे, अब वे पूर्ण राजसी वैभव के साथ निकल रहे हैं। यह दृश्य राम के प्रभाव और सुग्रीव के भाग्य परिवर्तन को रेखांकित करता है। लक्ष्मण का साथ होना यह भी सुनिश्चित करता है कि अब वानर राज और रघुवंशियों के बीच पुनः सौहार्द स्थापित हो रहा है।
