अवातरत् महातेजाः शिबिकायाः स लक्ष्मणः ।
आसाद्य च ततो रामम् कृत अंजलि पुटो अभवत् ॥ ॥४-३८-१६॥
Avātarat mahātejāḥ śibikāyāḥ sa lakṣmaṇaḥ । Āsādya ca tato rāmam kṛta añjali puṭo abhavat ॥ ॥4-38-16॥
Translation
The highly resplendent Sugriva alighted from the palanquin along with Lakshmana, and approaching Rama, he stood with folded hands.

महातेजस्वी सुग्रीव लक्ष्मण के साथ पालकी से नीचे उतरे और राम के समीप पहुंचकर हाथ जोड़ लिए।
English Commentary
Despite the earlier pomp, Sugriva displays proper protocol and humility by alighting from his vehicle before approaching a superior. The epithet 'Mahatejah' (greatly resplendent) acknowledges Sugriva's royal aura, yet his action of folding hands ('Kritanjali') signifies submission and devotion. This gesture is crucial as it instantly pacifies any lingering resentment Rama might have had regarding the delay. The simultaneous action of Lakshmana and Sugriva alighting suggests a unified front. It visually demonstrates that the conflict between the brothers' expectations and the King's leisure has been resolved.

यहाँ सुग्रीव के व्यवहार में विनम्रता का दर्शन होता है। यद्यपि वे राजा हैं और पालकी में आए हैं, लेकिन राम के समीप पहुँचते ही वे वाहन त्याग देते हैं। 'महातेजाः' शब्द सुग्रीव के प्रभाव को बताता है, फिर भी वे 'कृत अंजलि पुटो' (हाथ जोड़े हुए) हैं। यह शिष्टाचार और कृतज्ञता का संगम है। लक्ष्मण का साथ उतरना यह दिखाता है कि लक्ष्मण ने सुग्रीव को राम तक सम्मानपूर्वक पहुँचाने का अपना दायित्व पूरा किया। हाथ जोड़ना भारतीय संस्कृति में पूर्ण समर्पण और आदर का प्रतीक है, जिससे सुग्रीव अपनी पिछली भूलों की मूक क्षमा मांग रहे हैं।
