Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कृत अंजलौ स्थिते तस्मिन् वानराः च अभवन् तथा ।
तटाकम् इव तम् दृष्ट्वा रामः कुड्मल पंकजम् ॥ ॥४-३८-१७॥
Kṛta añjalau sthite tasmin vānarāḥ ca abhavan tathā । Taṭākam iva tam dṛṣṭvā rāmaḥ kuḍmala paṅkajam ॥ ॥4-38-17॥
Translation
When Sugriva stood with folded hands, the monkeys also did the same. Rama saw them appearing like a lake filled with closed lotus buds.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सुग्रीव के हाथ जोड़कर खड़े होने पर (अन्य) वानर भी वैसे ही खड़े हो गए। तब राम ने उन्हें मुकुलित (बंद) कमलों वाले तालाब के समान देखा।
English Commentary
This verse contains a beautiful poetic simile. As the monkey army mimics their king by folding their hands, the collective visual is compared to a lake filled with budding lotuses ('Kudmala Pankajam'). The folded hands resemble the closed shape of a lotus bud. This imagery suggests potential energy and purity; just as buds wait for the sun to bloom, the Vanara army awaits Rama's command to spring into action. The peaceful and aesthetic nature of this comparison indicates a softening of Rama's mood, moving from the tension of waiting to the beauty of devotion.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण की उपमा-शक्ति का सुंदर उदाहरण है। जब हजारों वानरों ने अपने राजा की देखा-देखी हाथ जोड़े, तो वह दृश्य ऐसा लगा जैसे किसी तालाब में हजारों कमल की कलियाँ (मुकुलित पंकज) बंद हों। जुड़े हुए हाथ कमल की कली के समान दिखते हैं। यह उपमा शांति, पवित्रता और समर्पण का भाव जगाती है। जैसे सूर्य के उदय होने पर कमल खिलते हैं, वैसे ही राम (सूर्यवंश के दीपक) की दृष्टि पड़ते ही ये वानर सेना रूपी कमल खिल उठेंगे और कार्य के लिए तत्पर होंगे। राम का क्रोध इस सुंदर दृश्य को देखकर शांत हो गया।
