Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वानराणाम् महत् सैन्यम् सुग्रीवे प्रीतिमान् अभूत् ।
पादयोः पतितम् मूर्ध्ना तम् उत्थाप्य हरीश्वरम् ॥ ॥४-३८-१८॥
Vānarāṇām mahat sainyam sugrīve prītimān abhūt । Pādayoḥ patitam mūrdhnā tam utthāpya harīśvaram ॥ ॥4-38-18॥
Translation
Rama became pleased with the great army of monkeys and with Sugriva. He raised the Lord of Monkeys who had fallen at his feet with his head touching them.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानरों की उस विशाल सेना और सुग्रीव पर राम बहुत प्रसन्न हुए। उन्होंने अपने चरणों में सिर रखकर पड़े हुए वानरराज सुग्रीव को उठाया।
English Commentary
Rama’s character as a forgiving and affectionate leader is highlighted here. Seeing the massive army and Sugriva's utter humility—prostrating with his head at Rama's feet—Rama is filled with affection ('Pritiman'). He does not let the King of Monkeys remain on the ground but physically lifts him up. This act of raising Sugriva symbolizes the restoration of his dignity and the renewal of their alliance. It signifies that the delay is forgiven and Rama is satisfied with the mobilization of the 'Mahat Sainyam' (great army).
हिंदी टीका
राम की क्षमाशीलता और औदार्य यहाँ प्रकट होता है। सुग्रीव ने केवल हाथ नहीं जोड़े, बल्कि 'पादयोः पतितम् मूर्ध्ना'—राम के चरणों में अपना सिर रख दिया। यह पूर्ण शरणागति है। राम ने उन्हें भूमि पर पड़े नहीं रहने दिया, बल्कि तुरंत उठाकर (उत्थाप्य) गले लगाने की पहल की। राम का प्रसन्न होना (प्रीतिमान् अभूत्) यह बताता है कि भक्त या मित्र यदि सच्चे मन से अपनी भूल स्वीकार ले और समर्पण करे, तो ईश्वर या महापुरुष पुरानी गलतियों को क्षण भर में भुला देते हैं। यहाँ से कथा में पुनः सकारात्मक मोड़ आता है।
