ऋक्षाः च वानराः शूरा गोलांगूलाः च राघव ।
कांतार वन दुर्गाणाम् अभिज्ञा घोर दर्शनाः ॥ ॥४-३८-२८॥
Ṛkṣāḥ ca vānarāḥ śūrā golāṃgūlāḥ ca rāghava |
Kāṃtāra vana durgāṇām abhijñā ghora darśanāḥ ॥4-38-28॥
Translation
O Raghava! These heroic bears, monkeys, and Golangulas (cow-tailed monkeys) are well-acquainted with dense forests and difficult terrains, and are fierce in appearance.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राघव! ये शूरवीर रीछ, वानर और गोलांगूल (लंगूर/गाय की पूंछ वाले वानर) घने जंगलों और दुर्गम मार्गों के जानकार हैं तथा देखने में भयानक हैं।

Sugriva details the composition of his army, highlighting three specific groups: Rikshas (bears), Vanaras (monkeys), and Golangulas (a species of black monkeys with cow-like tails). He emphasizes two key attributes relevant to the mission: their familiarity with difficult terrain (Durganam abhijna) and their terrifying appearance (Ghora darshanah). Knowledge of forests is crucial for the search operation (reconnaissance), while their fierce demeanor is essential for the eventual battle.
