देव गन्धर्व पुत्राः च वानराः काम रूपिणः ।
स्वैः स्वैः परिवृताः सैन्यैः वर्तन्ते पथि राघव ॥ ॥४-३८-२९॥
Deva gandharva putrāḥ ca vānarāḥ kāma rūpiṇaḥ |
Svaiḥ svaiḥ parivṛtāḥ sainyaiḥ vartante pathi rāghava ॥4-38-29॥
Translation
O Raghava! These monkeys, sons of Devas and Gandharvas, capable of assuming any form at will, are on their way, surrounded by their respective armies.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राघव! देवताओं और गन्धर्वों के पुत्र, इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाले (कामरूपी) ये वानर अपनी-अपनी सेनाओं से घिरे हुए मार्ग में आ रहे हैं।
English Commentary
This verse underscores the divine lineage and supernatural capabilities of the Vanara army. By referring to them as sons of Devas and Gandharvas, Sugriva elevates their status from mere forest dwellers to celestial warriors born for this purpose. The attribute Kamarupinah (shape-shifters) is strategically important, as they will be fighting Rakshasas who also possess illusory powers (Maya). Sugriva paints a picture of massive columns of troops currently en route (vartante pathi), building anticipation for their arrival.

रामायण में वानर सेना साधारण जानवरों की सेना नहीं है, बल्कि 'देवांश' है। सुग्रीव याद दिलाते हैं कि ये वानर देवताओं और गन्धर्वों के अंश से उत्पन्न हुए हैं (जैसा कि बाल काण्ड में बताया गया है)। 'कामरूपिणः' (इच्छानुसार रूप बदलने वाले) होना युद्ध में एक बहुत बड़ी शक्ति है, जिससे वे जासूसी और छल-युद्ध कर सकते हैं। यह श्लोक सेना की अलौकिक क्षमता को रेखांकित करता है। सुग्रीव यह बता रहे हैं कि राम के पास अब दैवीय सहायता उपलब्ध है जो रावण की मायावी शक्तियों का सामना कर सकती है।
