शतैः शत सहस्रैः च कोटिभिः च प्लवंगमाः ।
अयुतैः च आवृता वीरा शंकुभिः च परंतप ॥ ॥४-३८-३०॥
Śataiḥ śata sahasraiḥ ca koṭibhiḥ ca plavaṃgamāḥ |
Ayutaiḥ ca āvṛtā vīrā śaṃkubhiḥ ca paraṃtapa ॥4-38-30॥
Translation
O Scorcher of Enemies! These heroic monkeys are surrounded by troops numbering in hundreds, hundred-thousands, Kotis (ten millions), Ayutas, and Shankus.

हे परंतप! ये वीर वानर सैकड़ों, लाखों, करोड़ों, अयुतों और शंकुओं की संख्या वाली सेनाओं से घिरे हुए हैं।
English Commentary
Sugriva begins utilizing ancient numerical terms to describe the sheer magnitude of the army. This is the "Catalog of Forces" often found in epics. He uses terms like Koti (10 million) and Shanku (a number often defined as 10 to the power of 12 or similar vast figures in ancient texts). Addressing Rama as Parantapa, he assures him that he won't be fighting alone; he will have a veritable ocean of warriors behind him. The intent is to overwhelm the listener with the scale of support being offered.
