Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ऋक्ष राजो महातेजा जांबवान् नाम नामतः ।
कोटिभिः दशभिः व्याप्तः सुग्रीवस्य वशे स्थितः ॥ ॥४-३९-२७॥
ṛkṣa rājo mahātejā jāṁbavān nāma nāmataḥ । koṭibhiḥ daśabhiḥ vyāptaḥ sugrīvasya vaśe sthitaḥ ॥ ॥4-39-27॥
Translation
The King of the Bears, the greatly radiant Jambavan, arrived surrounded by ten crores of troops and placed himself under Sugriva's command.

ऋक्षों (रीछों) के राजा, महातेजस्वी 'जाम्बवान', दस करोड़ सैनिकों से घिरे हुए आए और सुग्रीव के आदेश में उपस्थित हुए।
English Commentary
This verse introduces the legendary Jambavan, the King of the Rikshas (bears). He is a figure of immense age and wisdom, linking the current events to previous avatars and eras. Crucially, the verse states he is Sugrivasya vashe sthitah (standing under the control/command of Sugriva). Despite being a king in his own right and an elder statesman, he respects the military hierarchy, submitting to Sugriva as the Supreme Commander. He brings ten crores of bears, adding both brute force and strategic wisdom to the alliance.
