ततः कोटि सहस्राणाम् सहस्रेण शतेन च ।
पृष्ठतो अनुगतः प्राप्तो हरिभिः गंधमादनः ॥ ॥४-३९-२९॥
tataḥ koṭi sahasrāṇām sahasreṇa śatena ca । pṛṣṭhato anugataḥ prāpto haribhiḥ gaṁdhamādanaḥ ॥ ॥4-39-29॥
Translation
Then Gandhamadana arrived, followed at his heels by a thousand thousand crores and a hundred crores of Vanaras.

तदनन्तर, एक लाख करोड़ और सौ करोड़ (अत्यधिक विशाल संख्या) वानरों द्वारा पीछे से अनुगमित होते हुए 'गंधमादन' वहां पहुंचे।
English Commentary
Gandhamadana arrives next. The numerical description here implies a mind-boggling number (thousands of thousands of crores), essentially conveying an endless sea of warriors. Gandhamadana is a heavyweight in the Vanara hierarchy. The phrasing Prishthato anugatah (followed from behind) paints a picture of a leader marching at the front with a massive train of supporters stretching to the horizon. His presence adds another layer of elite leadership to the gathering army.

इस श्लोक में 'गंधमादन' के आगमन और उनकी सेना की असीमित संख्या का वर्णन है। यहाँ संख्याओं का प्रयोग (कोटि सहस्राणाम् सहस्रेण...) काव्यात्मक और अतिश्योक्तिपूर्ण है, जिसका मुख्य उद्देश्य सेना की 'अनंत' विशालता को दर्शाना है। गंधमादन वही वीर हैं जो कुम्भकर्ण के साथ युद्ध में भी अपनी वीरता दिखाते हैं। 'पृष्ठतो अनुगतः' का अर्थ है कि सेना उनके पीछे-पीछे चल रही थी, जो एक अनुशासित मार्च का दृश्य प्रस्तुत करता है। गंधमादन सुग्रीव के दरबार के एक सम्मानित सदस्य हैं।
