ततः पद्म सहस्रेण वृतः शन्कु शतेन च ।
युव राजो अंगदः प्राप्तः पितृ तुल्य पराक्रमः ॥ ॥४-३९-३०॥
tataḥ padma sahasreṇa vṛtaḥ śanku śatena ca । yuva rājo aṁgadaḥ prāptaḥ pitṛ tulya parākramaḥ ॥ ॥4-39-30॥
Translation
Then Crown Prince Angada, whose prowess is equal to his father's, arrived surrounded by a thousand Padma and a hundred Shanku of troops.

तदनन्तर, पिता (बाली) के समान पराक्रमी 'युवराज अंगद', एक हजार 'पद्म' और सौ 'शंकु' सेना के साथ वहां पहुंचे।
English Commentary
This verse marks the arrival of the Crown Prince (Yuvaraja) Angada. He is accorded the highest martial compliment: Pitri tulya parakramah (prowess equal to his father, Vali). The numbers used for his army—Padma and Shanku—are astronomical measures in ancient Indian mathematics, vastly exceeding "crores." This hyperbolic count signifies that as the heir apparent, he commands the largest and most elite divisions. Angada represents the future of Kishkindha and carries the legacy of Vali’s unmatched strength into the alliance with Rama.
