आवृत्य पृथिवीम् सर्वाम् पर्वतान् च वनानि च ।
यूथपाः समनुप्राप्ता एषाम् संख्या न विद्यते ॥ ॥४-३९-३९॥
āvṛtya pṛthivīm sarvām parvatān ca vanāni ca । yūthapāḥ samanuprāptā eṣām saṁkhyā na vidyate ॥ ॥4-39-39॥
Translation
Covering the entire earth, the mountains, and the forests, the commanders arrived; their numbers were beyond counting.
हिंदी अनुवाद
समस्त पृथ्वी, पर्वतों और वनों को ढकते हुए वे यूथपति आ पहुंचे। उनकी संख्या का कोई अंत नहीं था (वे अगणनीय थे)।
English Commentary
This verse vividly describes the sheer density of the gathered forces. They are said to "cover the earth," rendering the ground, mountains, and forests invisible beneath the sea of Vanaras. The phrase Samkhya na vidyate (their number does not exist/cannot be found) emphasizes that the mobilization has surpassed logistical counting. It suggests a total convergence of the forest world's power. This scale is intended to reassure the reader (and Rama) that the force is sufficient to challenge the might of Ravana's empire.

यहाँ सेना के एकत्रीकरण का समापन वर्णन है। दृश्य अत्यंत भव्य है—वानरों की भीड़ ने पृथ्वी की सतह, पहाड़ों और जंगलों को पूरी तरह ढक लिया है। 'संख्या न विद्यते' (संख्या विद्यमान नहीं है/गिनी नहीं जा सकती) वाक्यांश बताता है कि सुग्रीव का सैन्य बल अब गणना से परे हो चुका है। यह महर्षि वाल्मीकि द्वारा रचित एक अतिशयोक्तिपूर्ण किन्तु प्रभावशाली चित्र है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि प्रकृति की पूरी शक्ति अब राम के कार्य के लिए एकजुट हो चुकी है। अब किष्किन्धा में केवल वानर ही वानर दिखाई दे रहे हैं।
