एवम् त्वयि तत् न चित्रम् भवेत् यत् सौम्य शोभनम् ।
जानामि अहम् त्वाम् सुग्रीव सततम् प्रिय वादिनम् ॥ ॥४-३९-४॥
Evam tvayi tat na citram bhavet yat saumya śobhanam |
Jānāmi aham tvām sugrīva satatam priya vādinam ॥4-39-4॥
Translation
O Gentle One! Therefore, it is not surprising that such noble qualities exist in you. O Sugriva, I know that you are always a speaker of pleasant (and true) words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सौम्य! इसलिए आप में इस कल्याणकारी (शोभन) गुण का होना कोई आश्चर्य की बात नहीं है। हे सुग्रीव! मैं जानता हूँ कि आप सदैव प्रिय और सत्य बोलने वाले हैं।
English Commentary
Rama solidifies the reconciliation. By stating "I know you" (Janami aham), Rama conveys deep personal trust. He dismisses any notion that Sugriva’s good deeds are unexpected anomalies; rather, they are consistent with his character. Calling Sugriva Priya vadinam (pleasant speaker) acknowledges that Sugriva’s earlier promises were sincere, not empty boasts. Rama is effectively validating Sugriva’s integrity before the gathered assembly, restoring his honor after the harsh rebuke he received from Lakshmana earlier.

यहाँ राम सुग्रीव के चरित्र पर अपनी मुहर लगाते हैं। वे कहते हैं, 'जानामि अहम्' (मैं जानता हूँ), जिसका अर्थ है कि राम को सुग्रीव की निष्ठा पर कभी संदेह नहीं था, भले ही बीच में विलंब हुआ हो। 'प्रिय वादिनम्' का अर्थ यहाँ केवल मीठा बोलने वाला नहीं, बल्कि वह है जो अपने वचनों (प्रतिज्ञा) का मान रखता है। राम सुग्रीव को आश्वस्त कर रहे हैं कि लक्ष्मण का क्रोध एक क्षणिक प्रतिक्रिया थी, जबकि राम का विश्वास सुग्रीव पर अटल है।
