एतत् ते सर्वम् आख्यातम् याथातथ्येन पृच्छतः ।
अहम् चैव च रामः च सुग्रीवम् शरणम् गतौ ॥ ॥४-४-१७॥
Etat te sarvam ākhyātam yāthātathyena pṛcchataḥ । Aham caiva ca rāmaḥ ca sugrīvam śaraṇam gatau ॥ ॥4-4-17॥
Translation
I have told you all this truthfully as you asked. Now, I and Rama have come to seek refuge in Sugriva.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुमने जो पूछा, वह सब मैंने तुम्हें यथार्थ (सच-सच) बता दिया है। अब मैं और राम, हम दोनों सुग्रीव की शरण में आए हैं।
English Commentary
Lakshmana’s humility reaches its peak here. Despite being warriors of noble lineage, he states, 'Sugrīvam śaraṇam gatau' (we have sought refuge in Sugriva). This is the total abandonment of ego. In diplomacy, the seeker must often humble themselves to secure an alliance. Lakshmana hides nothing ('yāthātathyena' - strictly according to facts). This transparency is the final stroke to win Hanuman's trust. Using the word "Refuge" places a moral obligation on the Vanaras to protect and assist their guests.

लक्ष्मण की विनम्रता यहाँ चरम पर है। त्रिलोकी के स्वामी होते हुए भी, वे कहते हैं 'सुग्रीवम् शरणम् गतौ' (हम सुग्रीव की शरण में आए हैं)। यह अहंकार का पूर्ण त्याग है। कूटनीति में, सहायता मांगने वाले को अपना अहंकार छोड़ना पड़ता है। लक्ष्मण ने कोई बात नहीं छिपाई ('याथातथ्येन' - जैसा था वैसा बताया)। यह पारदर्शिता हनुमान का विश्वास जीतने के लिए अंतिम प्रहार है। जब इतना बड़ा वीर 'शरण' शब्द का प्रयोग करता है, तो सामने वाले (वानरों) पर रक्षा करने का धर्म-संकट और नैतिक दायित्व आ जाता है।
