यस्य प्रसादे सततम् प्रसीदेयुः इमाः प्रजाः ।
स रामः वानरेन्द्रस्य प्रसादम् अभिकाङ्क्षते ॥ ॥४-४-२१॥
Yasya prasāde satatam prasīdeyuḥ imāḥ prajāḥ । Sa rāmaḥ vānarendrasya prasādam abhikāṅkṣate ॥ ॥4-4-21॥
Translation
He by whose grace the subjects remained constantly happy, that very Rama now desires the grace of the Lord of Monkeys.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसकी कृपा (प्रसाद) से प्रजा सदा प्रसन्न रहती थी, वही राम आज वानरराज (सुग्रीव) की कृपा (प्रसाद) की आकांक्षा कर रहे हैं।
English Commentary
The word 'Prasada' (grace/favor) is used masterfully here. A king's role is to bestow grace upon subjects, but the wheel of time has turned such that Rama now seeks the grace of a forest chieftain. Lakshmana draws this contrast to emphasize Rama's humility; he is choosing the path of alliance over aggression. This verse reflects the philosophical tenet that Time (Kala) is supreme, capable of reversing the fortunes of even the mightiest, making a king a petitioner.

यहाँ 'प्रसाद' (कृपा/अनुग्रह) शब्द का सुंदर प्रयोग हुआ है। एक राजा का काम प्रजा पर कृपा करना होता है, लेकिन काल चक्र ने राम को उस स्थिति में ला दिया है जहाँ उन्हें एक वनवासी राजा की कृपा चाहिए। लक्ष्मण यह तुलना इसलिए कर रहे हैं ताकि हनुमान समझ सकें कि राम अभी अपनी शक्ति का प्रयोग नहीं कर रहे हैं, बल्कि विनम्रता का मार्ग अपना रहे हैं। यह श्लोक भारतीय दर्शन के उस सिद्धांत को भी दर्शाता है कि समय सबसे बलवान होता है, जो राजा को रंक और रंक को राजा बना सकता है।
