Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कपिः कथयते हृष्टो यथा अयम् मारुतात्मजः ।
कृत्यवान् सोऽपि संप्राप्तः कृत कृत्योऽसि राघव ॥ ॥४-४-३१॥
Kapiḥ kathayate hṛṣṭo yathā ayam mārutātmajaḥ |
Kṛtyavān so'pi saṃprāptaḥ kṛta kṛtyo'si rāghava ॥4-4-31॥
Translation
(Lakshmana speaks to Rama) From the way this son of the Wind God (Hanuman) speaks with such delight, it appears he is capable of accomplishing the task and has arrived here with success in mind. O Raghava, you too have attained your object (by meeting him).
हिंदी अनुवाद
(लक्ष्मण श्री राम से कहते हैं) जिस प्रकार यह मारुतिनन्दन (हनुमान) हर्षित होकर बात कर रहे हैं, उससे प्रतीत होता है कि यह कार्यसिद्धि करने वाले हैं और अपने उद्देश्य में सफल होकर ही आए हैं। हे राघव! अब आप भी कृतार्थ (सफल) हो गए हैं।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Lakshmana's acute powers of observation. Although Hanuman is still conversing in the guise of an ascetic, Lakshmana deciphers the joy and confidence in his demeanor. He assures Rama that this is no ordinary encounter; Hanuman is described as Krityavan—one who is capable of executing tasks effectively. Lakshmana perceives that Hanuman's evident happiness signals a successful alliance with Sugriva. It marks a pivotal moment where the mood shifts from the despair of searching in the wilderness to the hope of finding a powerful ally. Lakshmana essentially validates Hanuman’s integrity before the formal alliance begins.

यहाँ लक्ष्मण जी की तीक्ष्ण बुद्धि और अवलोकन क्षमता दर्शायी गयी है। यद्यपि हनुमान जी अभी एक सामान्य भिक्षु के वेश में बात कर रहे थे, किन्तु लक्ष्मण जी ने उनके चेहरे के भाव और उत्साह को पढ़ लिया। जब कोई सच्चा सेवक अपने स्वामी से मिलता है, तो उसका हर्ष छिप नहीं पाता। लक्ष्मण जी श्री राम को आश्वस्त कर रहे हैं कि यह वानर साधारण नहीं है; यह 'कृत्यवान' है, अर्थात कार्य को सिद्ध करने की क्षमता रखता है। हनुमान जी की प्रसन्नता को देखकर लक्ष्मण जी समझ गए कि सुग्रीव से मित्रता का प्रस्ताव सफल होगा और सीता जी की खोज में सहायता मिलेगी। यह श्लोक आशा की किरण है।
