Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रसन्न मुख वर्णः च व्यक्तम् हृष्टः च भाषते ।
न अनृतम् वक्ष्यते वीरो हनूमान् मारुतात्मजः ॥ ॥४-४-३२॥
Prasanna mukha varṇaḥ ca vyaktam hṛṣṭaḥ ca bhāṣate |
na anṛtam vakṣyate vīro hanūmān mārutātmajaḥ ॥4-4-32॥
Translation
His facial complexion is bright and cheerful, and he speaks with evident joy. This hero, Hanuman, the son of the Wind God, will not speak an untruth.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इनका (हनुमान जी का) मुख-वर्ण अत्यंत प्रसन्न है और ये स्पष्ट रूप से हर्षित होकर बोल रहे हैं। यह वीर वायुपुत्र हनुमान कभी झूठ नहीं बोलेंगे।
English Commentary
The face is often called the mirror of the mind. Lakshmana observes the Prasanna mukha varna (pleasant/bright complexion) of Hanuman and deduces his moral standing. He asserts that a being radiating such positivity and frankness is incapable of deceit. This serves as a character certification for Hanuman from Lakshmana himself. In forming political or personal alliances, trust is the foundational element. By validating Hanuman’s truthfulness, Lakshmana removes any hesitation Rama might have about trusting a stranger in the forest, paving the way for the legendary friendship that follows.

मुख को हृदय का दर्पण कहा जाता है। लक्ष्मण जी, जो स्वयं सत्य और धर्म के रक्षक हैं, हनुमान जी के तेज और सात्विकता को पहचान लेते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि जिनके मुख पर इतनी 'प्रसन्नता' और ओज हो, वे कपट या असत्य का सहारा नहीं ले सकते। यह हनुमान जी के चरित्र का प्रमाण-पत्र है जो स्वयं शेषनाग के अवतार (लक्ष्मण) द्वारा दिया जा रहा है। मित्रता और कूटनीति में विश्वास सबसे महत्वपूर्ण होता है। यहाँ लक्ष्मण जी श्री राम के मन में हनुमान जी के प्रति पूर्ण विश्वास स्थापित कर रहे हैं, ताकि आगे की यात्रा निर्विघ्न हो सके।
