अथ राजा समृद्ध अर्थः सुग्रीवः प्लवगेश्वरः ।
उवाच नरशार्दूलम् रामम् परबलार्दनम् ॥ ॥४-४०-१॥
atha rājā samṛddha arthaḥ sugrīvaḥ plavageśvaraḥ । uvāca naraśārdūlam rāmam parabalārdanam ॥ ॥4-40-1॥
Translation
Then, King Sugriva, the Lord of monkeys, having achieved his purpose (of gathering the army), spoke to Rama, the tiger among men and destroyer of enemy forces.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर, अपने मनोरथ (सेना एकत्रीकरण) में सफल हुए वानरराज सुग्रीव ने, शत्रुओं की सेना का नाश करने वाले नरश्रेष्ठ राम से कहा।
English Commentary
This opens a new chapter (Sarga 40). Sugriva is described as Samriddha arthah (one whose goal is fulfilled/rich in purpose). The successful mobilization has restored his confidence. He addresses Rama as Nara-shardula (Tiger among men) and Para-bala-ardanam (Destroyer of enemy armies). These epithets are chosen carefully; Sugriva is acknowledging Rama's own martial might while offering him the instrument (the Vanara army) to exercise that might. The tone shifts from preparation to execution.

यहाँ से सीता की खोज की योजना का न्यू चरण (नया सर्ग) प्रारंभ होता है। सुग्रीव को 'समृद्ध अर्थः' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है जिसका प्रयोजन पूरा हो गया हो (सेना आ गई है)। अब वे आत्मविश्वास से भरे हैं। वे राम को 'परबलार्दनम्' (शत्रु सेना को कुचलने वाले) कह कर संबोधित करते हैं, मानो वे राम को आश्वासन दे रहे हों कि अब आपके पास वह साधन (सेना) है जिससे आप शत्रुओं का नाश कर सकेंगे। सुग्रीव की वाणी में अब संकोच नहीं, बल्कि कृतज्ञता और गर्व है।
