न अहम् अस्मिन् प्रभुः कार्ये वानरेन्द्र न लक्ष्मणः ।
त्वम् अस्य हेतुः कार्यस्य प्रभुः च प्लवगेश्वर ॥ ॥४-४०-१३॥
na aham asmin prabhuḥ kārye vānarendra na lakṣmaṇaḥ |
tvam asya hetuḥ kāryasya prabhuḥ ca plavageśvara ॥4-40-13॥
Translation
O King of Vanaras, neither I nor Lakshmana are the lords (masters) of this task. You alone are the cause and the master of this mission, O Lord of monkeys.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानरेन्द्र! इस (खोज के) कार्य में न मैं प्रभु (स्वामी/समर्थ) हूँ और न ही लक्ष्मण। हे प्लवगेश्वर! इस कार्य के साधन और प्रभु (नियंता) आप ही हैं।
English Commentary
This is a masterclass in leadership and delegation. Rama acknowledges his limitations—he implies that neither he nor Lakshmana possesses the geographical expertise or the command over the Vanara troops required for this search. By designating Sugriva as the Prabhu (Lord/Master) of this specific mission, he empowers him fully. Admitting one’s limitation is a sign of a great leader. By giving Sugriva full ownership, Rama ensures Sugriva accepts total personal responsibility for the mission's success.
