त इमे बहु विक्रान्तैः बलिभिः भीम विक्रमैः ।
आगता वानरा घोरा दैत्य दानव संनिभाः ॥ ॥४-४०-३॥
ta ime bahu vikrāntaiḥ balibhiḥ bhīma vikramaiḥ । āgatā vānarā ghorā daitya dānava saṁnibhāḥ ॥ ॥4-40-3॥
Translation
"These fierce Vanaras, resembling Daityas and Danavas (in strength), have arrived accompanied by many powerful warriors of terrifying prowess."

"ये भयानक वानर, जो दैत्यों और दानवों के समान (विशाल और शक्तिशाली) हैं, अपने साथ बहुत से पराक्रमी और भयानक विक्रम वाले योद्धाओं को लेकर आए हैं।"
English Commentary
Sugriva compares his troops to Daityas and Danavas (titans and demons). In Indian epic literature, comparing protagonists to demons usually denotes sheer physical power, size, and ferocity, which are necessary to combat actual evil demons. He describes them as Ghora (fearsome). This is a realistic military assessment; to defeat the Rakshasas of Lanka, the Vanaras must be equally formidable and terrifying. Sugriva is selling the "lethality" of his force to Rama.

सुग्रीव अपनी सेना की तुलना 'दैत्य दानव संनिभाः' (दैत्य और दानवों के समान) से करते हैं। यहाँ आशय उनकी दुष्टता से नहीं, बल्कि उनकी शारीरिक शक्ति और आकार से है। राक्षसों से लड़ने के लिए राक्षसी बल की ही आवश्यकता थी, और वानर सेना उस पैमाने पर खरी उतरती है। 'घोरा' (भयानक) शब्द शत्रुओं के लिए चेतावनी है। सुग्रीव राम को आश्वस्त कर रहे हैं कि यह सेना रावण की सेना से किसी भी मायने में कम नहीं है।
