स्वादु उदस्य उत्तरे देशे योजनानि त्रयोदश ।
जातरूप शिलो नाम सुमहान् कनक प्रभः ॥ ॥४-४०-५०॥
Svādu udasya uttare deśe yojanāni trayodaśa । Jātarūpa śilo nāma sumahān kanaka prabhaḥ ॥ ॥4-40-50॥
Translation
Thirteen Yojanas to the north of that Ocean of Sweet Water, there is a massive mountain named Jatarupa Shila (Rock of Gold), shining with the brilliance of gold.

उस स्वादु-जल के सागर (जलोद) के उत्तर दिशा में तेरह योजन (दूर) जाने पर, 'जातरूप शिला' नामक एक विशाल पर्वत है जो सोने की कांति से चमकता है।
English Commentary
Moving past the terrifying fire, the landscape returns to opulence. Sugriva guides them 13 Yojanas north to Jatarupa Shila. Jatarupa is a Sanskrit term for gold (literally 'native beauty' or 'form as born'). This 'Golden Rock' mountain stands as a beacon of brilliance. The specific measurement (13 Yojanas) adds a layer of realism and precision to the instructions, suggesting Sugriva (or the ancient geographers) had specific spatial relationships in mind, even when describing mythical geography.
