आसीनम् पर्वतस्य अग्रे सर्व भूत नमस्कृतम् ।
सहस्र शिरसम् देवम् अनंतम् नील वाससम् ॥ ॥४-४०-५२॥
Āsīnam parvatasya agre sarva bhūta namaskṛtam । Sahasra śirasam devam anantam nīla vāsasam ॥ ॥4-40-52॥
Translation
He is seated atop the mountain and is worshipped by all beings. He is the thousand-headed god Ananta (The Endless One), clad in blue garments.

वे उस पर्वत के शिखर पर विराजमान हैं और सभी प्राणी उन्हें नमस्कार करते हैं। वे हजार सिरों वाले, नीले वस्त्र धारण करने वाले देवता 'अनंत' हैं।
English Commentary
The iconography of Ananta Shesha is completed here. He sits atop the Golden Mountain, revered by all beings. The 'thousand heads' (sahasra shirasam) symbolize infinite consciousness and vigilance. The 'blue garments' (nila vasasam) are his trademark attire, distinguishing him from Vishnu (who wears yellow), though they are essentially one. The name Ananta implies he is infinite and transcends time. This is a moment of high theology within the geography lesson—the Vanaras are encountering the sustainer of the cosmos.

यहाँ शेषनाग के स्वरूप का विस्तृत वर्णन है। 'सहस्र शिरसम्' (हजार सिर) उनकी सर्वव्यापकता और अनंत ज्ञान का प्रतीक है। 'नील वाससम्' (नीले वस्त्र) उनका विशेष चिह्न है; यही स्वरूप द्वापर युग में बलराम के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। 'अनंत' नाम इसलिए है क्योंकि उनका न आदि है न अंत, और वे काल (समय) के भी स्वामी हैं। सभी भूत (प्राणी) उन्हें नमन करते हैं, जो उनकी सर्वोच्च सत्ता को दर्शाता है। सुग्रीव वानरों को बता रहे हैं कि वे एक साक्षात ईश्वर के समक्ष होंगे।
