तत्र योजन विस्तारम् उच्छ्रितम् दश योजनम् ।
शृंगम् सौमनसम् नाम जातरूपमयम् ध्रुवम् ॥ ॥४-४०-५७॥
Tatra yojana vistāram ucchritam daśa yojanam । Śṛṅgam saumanasam nāma jātarūpamayam dhruvam ॥ ॥4-40-57॥
Translation
On that mountain, there is a peak named Saumanasa, one Yojana in width and ten Yojanas in height. It is made of gold and is eternal (immovable).

उस पर्वत पर एक योजन चौड़ा और दस योजन ऊँचा, 'सौमनस' नाम का एक शिखर है। वह भी पूरी तरह सोने का बना है और 'ध्रुव' (अचल/नित्य) है।

उदय पर्वत के ऊपर एक विशिष्ट शिखर है जिसका नाम 'सौमनस' है। 'सौमनस' का अर्थ है 'मन को सुख देने वाला'। इसकी ऊँचाई दस योजन बताई गई है। इसे 'ध्रुवम्' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है 'स्थिर' या 'शाश्वत'। यह शब्द इंगित करता है कि प्रलय या कल्प के अंत में भी इस शिखर का नाश नहीं होता। यह वही पवित्र स्थान है जिसका पौराणिक महत्व अगले श्लोक में बताया जाएगा। सुग्रीव वानरों को भूगोल की बारीकियाँ समझा रहे हैं ताकि वे स्थान को ठीक से पहचान सकें।
