तत्र पूर्वम् पदम् कृत्वा पुरा विष्णुः त्रिविक्रमे ।
द्वितीयम् शिखरम् मेरोः चकार पुरुषोत्तमः ॥ ॥४-४०-५८॥
Tatra pūrvam padam kṛtvā purā viṣṇuḥ trivikrame । Dvitīyam śikharam meroḥ cakāra puruṣottamaḥ ॥ ॥4-40-58॥
Translation
In ancient times, while taking the three strides (Trivikrama), Lord Vishnu placed his first foot on this very peak. The Supreme Person (Purushottama) placed his second foot on the peak of Mount Meru.
हिंदी अनुवाद
प्राचीन काल में, भगवान विष्णु (वामन अवतार) ने अपने 'त्रिविक्रम' रूप में (तीनों लोकों को नापते समय) अपना पहला कदम इसी शिखर पर रखा था। पुरुषोत्तम ने अपना दूसरा कदम मेरु पर्वत के शिखर पर रखा था।
English Commentary
This verse imbues the geography with profound theological significance, referencing the Vamana Avatar and the legend of the Three Strides (Trivikrama). It states that the Saumanasa peak was the stepping stone for the first stride of Vishnu as he measured the universe. The second stride landed on Mount Meru (the axis mundi). By connecting this eastern peak to the central axis of Meru via Vishnu's stride, Sugriva illustrates the cosmic scale of the terrain and confirms the holiness of the ground the Vanaras are to search.

यह श्लोक इस स्थान के अत्यधिक धार्मिक महत्व को उजागर करता है। यहाँ वामन अवतार की कथा का संदर्भ है, जब भगवान विष्णु ने राजा बलि से तीन पग भूमि माँगी थी और विराट रूप धारण किया था। सुग्रीव बताते हैं कि भगवान का पहला कदम इसी 'सौमनस' शिखर पर पड़ा था। यह पूर्व दिशा की पवित्रता को स्थापित करता है। दूसरा कदम मेरु पर था। यह वानरों को यह समझाने के लिए है कि वे कितनी पवित्र और दिव्य भूमि पर विचरण कर रहे होंगे।
