महेन्द्र कांताम् वन षंड मण्डिताम् दिशम् चरित्वा निपुणेन वानराः ।
अवाप्य सीताम् रघु वंशज प्रियाम् ततो निवृत्ताः सुखिनो भविष्यथ ॥ ॥४-४०-७१॥
Mahendra kāntām vana ṣaṇḍa maṇḍitām Diśam caritvā nipuṇena vānarāḥ । Avāpya sītām raghu vaṃśaja priyām Tato nivṛttāḥ sukhino bhaviṣyatha ॥ ॥4-40-71॥
Translation
O Vanaras! Having skillfully roamed this direction beloved of Mahendra and adorned with groves of forests, and having found Sita, the beloved of the scion of Raghu, you shall return and be happy.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानरों! महेन्द्र (इन्द्र) की प्रिय और वन-समूहों से सुशोभित इस (पूर्व) दिशा में निपुणता से विचरण करके, और रघुकुल नंदन (राम) की प्रिय सीता को पाकर (ढूँढकर), तुम लोग लौटकर सुखी हो जाओगे।
English Commentary
This concluding verse of the 40th Sarga softens the blow of the death threat with a promise of happiness (sukhino bhavishyatha). Sugriva frames the mission as a path to glory. The East is referred to as "Mahendra-kantam" (Beloved of Indra), reiterating its importance. He encourages them to search "skillfully" (nipunena). Finding Sita is framed not just as a duty, but as the key to their own future happiness and prosperity upon their return.

यह 40वें सर्ग का अंतिम श्लोक है। सुग्रीव अपनी कठोर चेतावनी के बाद अब अपने सैनिकों का उत्साहवर्धन कर रहे हैं। वे पूर्व दिशा को 'महेन्द्र कांताम्' (इन्द्र की प्रिय दिशा) कहते हैं, जो शुभता का संकेत है। 'सुखिनो भविष्यथ' का अर्थ है कि यदि वे सफल होकर लौटते हैं, तो उन्हें राजा (सुग्रीव) और भगवान राम दोनों से सम्मान और सुख प्राप्त होगा। यह एक सकारात्मक नोट (positive note) पर आदेश का समापन है।
