अयोमुखः च गंतव्यः पर्वतो धातु मण्डितः ।
विचित्र शिखरः श्रीमान् चित्र पुष्पित काननः ॥ ॥४-४१-१३॥
ayomukhaḥ ca gantavyaḥ parvato dhātu maṇḍitaḥ |
vicitra śikharaḥ śrīmān citra puṣpita kānanaḥ ॥4-41-13॥
Translation
You must go to the mountain named Ayomukha, which is rich in ores and minerals. That glorious mountain has wonderful peaks and forests with variegated flowers.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(वहाँ से) अयोमुख नामक पर्वत पर जाना चाहिए, जो अनेक प्रकार की धातुओं (खनिजों) से सुशोभित है। वह श्रीसंपन्न पर्वत विचित्र शिखरों वाला है और वहाँ के वन विविध प्रकार के फूलों से लदे रहते हैं।
English Commentary
Sugriva directs the Vanaras to a specific landmark: Mount Ayomukha. The description is vivid and geological; it is "rich in ores" (dhatu manditah), indicating a mineral-rich zone. The aesthetic description—"wonderful peaks" and "forests with variegated flowers"—serves two purposes. First, it acts as a visual guide for the search party to identify the correct mountain. Second, it highlights the lush, tropical biodiversity of the region. A mountain with such complex terrain (wonderful/strange peaks) and dense flowering forests would be a prime location for concealing a captive, making it a necessary stop in their expedition.
