जात रूपमयः श्रीमान् अवगाढो महार्णवम् ।
नाना विधैः नगैः फुल्लैः लताभिः च उपशोभितम् ॥ ॥४-४१-२१॥
jāta rūpamayaḥ śrīmān avagāḍho mahārṇavam |
nānā vidhaiḥ nagaiḥ phullaiḥ latābhiḥ ca upaśobhitam ॥4-41-21॥
Translation
That glorious mountain is made of gold (Jatarupa) and is plunged deep into the great ocean. It is embellished with various kinds of flowering trees and creepers.

वह (महेन्द्र पर्वत) पूर्णतः सुवर्णमय (जातरूपमय) और श्रीसंपन्न है। उसका एक भाग महासागर में डूबा हुआ है। वह नाना प्रकार के फूले हुए वृक्षों और लताओं से सुशोभित है।
English Commentary
The visual imagery of Mount Mahendra implies a celestial quality. Described as 'Jata Rupamaya' (made of gold/golden), it stands as a shining beacon against the blue waters. The phrase 'avagadhah maharnavam' suggests it is deeply rooted or partially submerged in the ocean, emphasizing its solidity amidst the waves. The presence of flowering trees and creepers indicates that despite being an oceanic mountain, it supports life and offers shelter, which would be vital for the Vanara army to camp and regroup before the crossing.

महेन्द्र पर्वत की सुंदरता का वर्णन अलौकिक है। 'जातरूपमयः' का अर्थ है सोने से बना हुआ या सोने जैसा चमकने वाला। 'अवगाढो महार्णवम्' बताता है कि इस पर्वत की जड़ें समुद्र की गहराइयों में हैं और यह पानी से बाहर निकला हुआ है। यह दृश्य—स्वर्णमयी चोटियाँ, नीला समुद्र और रंग-बिरंगे फूल—एक अद्भुत विरोधाभास और सुंदरता प्रस्तुत करता है। सुग्रीव वानरों को यह समझा रहे हैं कि यद्यपि स्थान दुर्गम है, परन्तु वहाँ संसाधनों (वृक्ष, लताएं) की कमी नहीं है।
