प्रणम्य शिरसा शैलम् तम् विमार्गथ वानराः ।
तम् अतिक्रम्य दुर्धर्षम् सूर्यवान् नाम पर्वतः ॥ ॥४-४१-३१॥
Praṇamya śirasā śailam tam vimārgatha vānarāḥ । Tam atikramya durdharṣam Sūryavān nāma parvataḥ ॥ ॥4-41-31॥
Translation
O Vanaras! Bow your heads in reverence to that mountain and search there. After crossing that unconquerable mountain, there is a mountain named Suryavan.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानरों! उस पर्वत को सिर झुकाकर प्रणाम करना और वहां (सीता की) खोज करना। उस दुर्धर्ष पर्वत को पार करने के बाद ‘सूर्यवान’ नामक पर्वत आता है।
English Commentary
Here, Sugriva instructs the Vanaras on both etiquette and caution. The specific mountain mentioned is deemed sacred, requiring the Vanaras to bow their heads in reverence before proceeding. In ancient expeditions, paying respects to the presiding deities of nature was considered essential for a safe journey. The instruction to search ('vimargatha') implies a thorough investigation of the area. Following this, they are to encounter Mount Suryavan. By describing it as 'durdharsha' (difficult to assault or unconquerable), Sugriva is mentally preparing his troops for the arduous terrain that lies ahead, ensuring they remain vigilant and respectful of the formidable geography.
