दिव्यम् उत्पद्यते यत्र तत् चैव अग्नि सम प्रभम् ।
न तु तत् चन्दनम् दृष्ट्वा स्प्रष्टव्यम् च कदाचन ॥ ॥४-४१-४१॥
Divyam utpadyate yatra tat caiva agni sama prabham । Na tu tat candanam dṛṣṭvā spraṣṭavyam ca kadācana ॥ ॥4-41-41॥
Translation
The divine sandalwood that grows there radiates light like fire. Upon seeing that sandalwood, one must never touch it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वहां जो दिव्य चंदन उत्पन्न होता है, वह अग्नि के समान प्रभाव वाला (चमकदार) है। उस चंदन को देखकर कभी भी उसका स्पर्श नहीं करना चाहिए।
English Commentary
Here, Sugriva issues a strict taboo. Although the sandalwood on Mount Rishabha is divine ('divyam') and radiates a brilliance comparable to fire ('agni sama prabham'), the Vanaras are explicitly forbidden from touching it. This command ('na ... sprashtavyam') serves multiple purposes: it respects the sanctity of the divine grove, prevents the Vanaras from getting distracted by looting valuable resources, and protects them from the potential wrath of the guardians mentioned in the next verse. It emphasizes discipline; the mission is to find Sita, not to gather divine treasures. The visual description of the sandalwood glowing like fire adds to its mystical aura.

यहाँ सुग्रीव एक कड़ा निषेध (Prohibition) लागू करते हैं। यद्यपि ऋषभ पर्वत पर अत्यंत दुर्लभ और कीमती चंदन उपलब्ध है, जो 'अग्नि सम प्रभम्' (आग की तरह चमकने वाला) है, लेकिन वानरों को इसे छूने की मनाही है। यह चंदन साधारण नहीं है, यह दिव्य और तेजस्वी है। इसे न छूने का आदेश संभवतः इसकी पवित्रता बनाए रखने के लिए या इसकी रक्षा करने वाले रक्षकों के क्रोध से बचने के लिए दिया गया है। यह निर्देश दर्शाता है कि यह एक खोजी अभियान है, लूट-पाट या संसाधन एकत्र करने का अभियान नहीं। अनुशासन बनाए रखना सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकता है।
