राजधानी यमस्य एषा कष्टेन तमसा आवृता ।
एतावत् एव युष्माभिः वीरा वानर पुंगवाः ।
शक्यम् विचेतुम् गन्तुम् वा न अतो गतिमताम् गतिः ॥ ॥४-४१-४५॥
Rājadhānī yamasya eṣā kaṣṭena tamasā āvṛtā । Etāvat eva yuṣmābhiḥ vīrā vānara puṅgavāḥ । Śakyam vicetum gantum vā na ato gatimatām gatiḥ ॥ ॥4-41-45॥
Translation
This is the capital of Yama, shrouded in painful darkness. O heroic bulls among Vanaras, you can search and travel only up to this point. Beyond this, there is no access for any moving (living) being.

यह यमराज की राजधानी है जो कष्टप्रद अंधकार से ढकी हुई है। हे वीर वानर पुंगवों! तुम लोग बस यहीं तक जा सकते हो और खोज सकते हो। इसके आगे गतिमान प्राणियों की कोई गति नहीं है।
English Commentary
This verse concludes the instructions for the South. Sugriva identifies the capital of Yama, Lord of Death, describing it as shrouded in a 'painful darkness.' He issues a strict operational limit: the Vanaras, despite their valor and speed, must stop here. The phrase na ato gatimatām gatiḥ (no path/movement for those who move) is profound—it signifies the boundary between the living biological world and the metaphysical void. Sugriva’s leadership shines here; he knows exactly where the mission implies searching and where it becomes a suicide mission, protecting his troops from venturing into the absolute unknown.

यह श्लोक दक्षिण दिशा के वर्णन का समापन है। सुग्रीव यमराज की राजधानी का उल्लेख करते हैं जो 'तमसा आवृता' (अंधकार से ढकी) है। यहाँ 'कष्टेन' शब्द उस अंधकार की भयावहत को दर्शाता है। सुगरीव अपनी सेना को यथार्थवादी निर्देश दे रहे हैं—यद्यपि वे वानर 'गतिमान' (तेज गति वाले) हैं, परन्तु मृत्यु के देवता के क्षेत्र में जीवितों की गति संभव नहीं है। यह सुग्रीव के ज्ञान की गहराई को दिखाता है; उन्हें न केवल पृथ्वी के भूगोल का ज्ञान है, बल्कि लोकों की मर्यादाओं का भी भान है। यह निर्देश अभियान की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए है।
