गिरी जाल आवृताम् दुर्गाम् मार्गित्वा पश्चिमाम् दिशम् ।
ततः पश्चिमम् आगम्य समुद्रम् द्रष्टुम् अर्हथ ॥ ॥४-४२-१०॥
Giri jāla āvṛtām durgām mārgitvā paścimām diśam । Tataḥ paścimam āgamya samudram draṣṭum arhatha ॥ ॥4-42-10॥
Translation
Having searched that western direction, which is difficult to traverse and covered with networks of mountains, you should then reach and behold the Western Ocean.

पहाड़ों के जाल से घिरी हुई उस दुर्गम पश्चिम दिशा में भली-भांति खोज करके, अंत में पश्चिम समुद्र (अरब सागर) तक जाकर उसे देखना चाहिए।
English Commentary
Sugriva guides the monkeys from the hinterlands to the coast. The phrase giri jāla āvṛtām (covered by a network/web of mountains) implies the complex terrain of the Western Ghats or the mountainous corridors leading to the coast. Once this difficult terrain is navigated, they are to reach the Paścimam Samudram (the Western Ocean/Arabian Sea). This clearly defines the boundary of the land search before they must consider maritime exploration or coastal scouting.

भूमि-भाग की खोज पूरी करने के बाद सुग्रीव वानरों को सागर तट तक पहुंचने का निर्देश देते हैं। 'गिरि जाल आवृताम्' (पहाड़ों के जाल से ढकी हुई) संभवतः पश्चिमी घाट (Western Ghats) की श्रृंखलाओं का वर्णन है जो समुद्र तट के समानांतर चलती हैं। 'दुर्गम्' शब्द बताता है कि यह यात्रा आसान नहीं होगी। सुग्रीव की योजनाबद्ध रणनीति यहाँ स्पष्ट है: पहले स्थलीय भाग (Landmass) की खोज, और फिर तटीय सीमा (Ocean) तक पहुंचना।
