तत्र प्रस्थेषु रम्येषु सिंहाः पक्ष गमाः स्थिताः ।
तिमि मत्स्य गजाम्ब् चैव नीडानि आरोपयन्ति ते ॥ ॥४-४२-१६॥
Tatra prastheṣu ramyeṣu siṃhāḥ pakṣa gamāḥ sthitāḥ । Timi matsya gajāmb caiva nīḍāni āropayanti te ॥ ॥4-42-16॥
Translation
On the delightful plateaus of that mountain live winged lions. They carry whales (Timi fish) and elephants up to their nests.

उस पर्वत के रमणीय प्रस्थों (पठारों) पर पंख वाले सिंह रहते हैं। वे तिमि मत्स्यों और हाथियों को भी (उठाकर) अपने घोंसलों में ले जाते हैं।
English Commentary
Here, the narrative shifts into the realm of the marvelous or mythological. Sugriva describes pakṣa gamāḥ siṃhāḥ—lions capable of flight (winged lions). This creature parallels the mythological Griffin found in ancient lore. The sheer scale of these beasts is conveyed by their prey: they carry Timi (whales) and elephants up to their nests on the peaks. This imagery serves to warn the Vanaras that the Western frontier houses dangers far surpassing ordinary predators, requiring extreme caution.

यहाँ वर्णन यथार्थवाद से अद्भुत रस (Mythology) की ओर मुड़ता है। सुग्रीव 'पक्ष गमाः सिंहाः' (उड़ने वाले या पंख वाले सिंहों) का वर्णन करते हैं। यह ग्रीक कथाओं के 'ग्रिफिन' (Griffin) जैसा प्रतीत होता है। इन जीवों की शक्ति इतनी विशाल बताई गई है कि वे समुद्र से व्हेल (तिमि) और जमीन से हाथियों को उठाकर अपने घोंसलों में ले जाते हैं। यह उस क्षेत्र की भयावहता और वहां के जीवों के आकार-प्रकार की अतिशयोक्ति या किसी लुप्त प्रजाति का सांकेतिक वर्णन हो सकता है, जो वानरों को सावधान करने के लिए है।
