Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विचरन्ति विशाले अस्मिन् तोय पूर्णे समन्ततः ।
तस्य शृंगम् दिव स्पर्शम् कांचनम् चित्र पादपम् ॥ ॥४-४२-१८॥
Vicaranti viśāle asmin toya pūrṇe samantataḥ । Tasya śṛṅgam diva sparśam kāñcanam citra pādapam ॥ ॥4-42-18॥
Translation
(Those elephants) roam all around that vast area filled with water. The peak of that mountain touches the sky; it is made of gold and adorned with wonderful trees.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस विशाल और जल से भरे हुए क्षेत्र में (वे हाथी) चारों ओर विचरण करते हैं। उस पर्वत का शिखर आकाश को छूता है, वह सुवर्णमय है और उस पर विचित्र प्रकार के वृक्ष लगे हैं।
English Commentary
This verse continues the description of the Hemagiri region mentioned previously. The phrase toya pūrṇe (filled with water) suggests this terrain is either surrounded by the ocean or is a wetland delta region. Diva sparśam (touching the sky) emphasizes the colossal height of the peak. The imagery of elephants roaming a golden, sky-touching mountain covered in exotic trees (citra pādapam) paints a picture of a paradise that exists at the very edge of the known world.
हिंदी टीका
यह श्लोक पिछले श्लोक (हेमगिरि पर्वत) का ही विस्तार है। 'तोय पूर्णे' (जल से भरे हुए) का अर्थ है कि यह पर्वत समुद्र के बीच या बहुत निकट स्थित है। 'दिव स्पर्शम्' (आकाश को छूने वाला) उस पर्वत की असीम ऊँचाई को दर्शाता है। यहाँ हाथियों का विचरण करना और पर्वत का सुवर्णमय होना, उस स्थान की समृद्धि और अलौकिकता को सिद्ध करता है। यह पश्चिमी सीमा का वह अंतिम छोर है जहाँ पृथ्वी और आकाश मिलते हुए प्रतीत होते हैं।
