Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
श्रीमान् समुदितः तत्र योजनानाम् शतम् समम् ।
गुहाः तत्र विचेतव्याः प्रयत्नेन प्लवंगमाः ॥ ॥४-४२-२६॥
Śrīmān samuditaḥ tatra yojanānām śatam samam । Guhāḥ tatra vicetavyāḥ prayatnena plavaṃgamāḥ ॥ ॥4-42-26॥
Translation
That glorious mountain rises up to a height of one hundred yojanas. O monkeys, the caves there must be searched with great effort.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह श्रीमान् (शोभायमान) पर्वत वहाँ सौ योजन ऊँचा खड़ा है। हे वानरों! वहाँ की गुफाओं में तुम्हें बहुत प्रयत्नपूर्वक खोज करनी चाहिए।
English Commentary
The sheer scale of Mount Vajra is reiterated—100 yojanas high. Sugriva directs the operational focus to the guhāḥ (caves). Recognizing that a mountain shaped like a "Vajra" (thunderbolt/diamond) would likely have complex geological formations and deep caverns, he identifies these as prime locations for hiding a hostage. The command emphasizes prayatnena (with great effort), acknowledging the difficulty of spelunking in such a massive, rugged environment.

वज्र पर्वत की ऊँचाई (सौ योजन) उसकी भव्यता ('श्रीमान्') को दर्शाती है। सुग्रीव विशेष रूप से 'गुहाः' (गुफाओं) की खोज पर जोर दे रहे हैं। प्राकृतिक रूप से, अपहरणकर्ता किसी को छिपाने के लिए महलों की बजाय बीहड़ स्थानों की गुफाओं का ही प्रयोग करेगा। 'प्रयत्नेन' (प्रयत्नपूर्वक) शब्द का प्रयोग इसलिए किया गया है क्योंकि वज्र जैसे कठोर पर्वत की गुफाएँ गहरी और अंधेरी हो सकती हैं, जहाँ खोज करना आसान नहीं होगा।
